“We asked for help from our relatives first, but later on we were ashamed to ask, that is why we sneaked into our farms at night to harvest. My nephew Yasser Damael, the fourteen-year-old boy, was killed and thrown in the toilet pit, he was unlucky”, Hadji Majeed
The unfortunate August 2008 incident in the Lanao Provinces brought many lives to the grave and many families struggling for home, food, security, peace and comfort. These have been heard in the news but many still left untold.
BALAOD Mindanaw, Kalimudan Foundation and Ecoweb, Inc., in partnership and thru the support of Australian Aid, initiated a capacity building and documentation project. This provided the community opportunity to document human rights violations occurred during the conflict.
The result of the documentation will be presented to various concerned government bodies and other stakeholders.
The community is expected to ask commitments from government officials and other stakeholders in protecting and fulfilling their basic rights.
